Generic Data Explorer

In response to the need to build Internet-enabled complex systems quickly, and to maximise ease of use while minimising IT support and maintenance, we have developed the Generic Data Explorer (GDE).

The GDE is a framework application that operates within Internet Explorer and resembles Microsoft's Management Console based applications in its assembly. Applications built using the GDE are closely coupled with a server-side database
(SQL Server, Oracle or Sybase, for example). The database connectivity is used to dynamically populate user paths through the application and to access specific data subsets.

The GDE provides the following development and business benefits:

  • User account management and dynamic function level security
  • Integrated reporting capabilities, using HTML and Excel layout templates
  • Internet/intranet connectivity using disconnected recordsets and optimised XML data transport for efficient network usage and scalability
  • Discrete component level construction and deployment for scalability and ease of maintenance
  • Integrated sorting, filtering and exporting of data selections. Rich user interface
  • Self installing, automatic updating
